Alenka Artnik

World Record Holder in Feediving

Although the Slovenian mermaid, as her fans affectionately call her, Artnik started diving relatively late, after the age of 30, her talent soon came to the fore. In her first training season, she touched the bottom of the 100 m deep Blue Hole in Egypt.

In 2016, Alenka celebrated her first world record at the CMAS World Championships with a dive to 92 m. The following year, the record-breaking winner of the same championship won gold again and flourished in the Caribbean Cup in the so-called 100-meter club, making her only the fourth female winner at this depth. Alenka Artnik has overcome the limits of what is possible, as she is the first woman in the world to dive below the magical limit of 122 meters with a monofin on a single breath. In 2020, she set two world records - in the double fin discipline, she dropped 94 meters deep, and in the royal discipline with a monofin as low as 114 meters below sea level. She further improved her achievements in July 2021 at the Vertical Blue competition in the Bahamas, where she needed 3 minutes and 34 seconds for a new record dive of 122 m. She has never had a failed dive, which is pretty rare in this sport.

Alenka has her eyes closed during a weightless fall into the depths. She perceives only water, has no thoughts and is fully present in the moment. She compares the feeling of free fall and freediving to a state of deep meditation.
