Old Vine

The 450-Year-Old Guinness World Record Holder

Share: FB TW

Žametovka, one of the oldest domesticated noble wine varieties, is planted in front of the House of the Old Vine in the old town centre of Maribor.

This venerable plant is more than 450 years old, as it was planted at the end of the Middle Ages when the Turks besieged Maribor. Today, the exceptional vine has its descendants grown all over the world, and every year a tourist culinary and wine festival is held at the harvest, which is attended by many famous people from Slovenia and the world and ends with the harvest.

Old Vine
Each year, the vine yields about 35 kg of grapes, which are processed into wine and bottled in the bottles of the famous artist Oskar Kogoj and donated as protocol gifts.
